On Wednesday 27 December 2017, there will be a village ramble around the Marton footpaths.

It will start at Chapeau Cafe at 10.30am, and return to Chapeau Cafe for mulled wine at 12.00.

Rob Marks, teacher at Marton Primary School, spoke to the Annual Village Meeting about the Forest School project

Thank you very much for the opportunity to introduce myself and explain how we at the school would like to get involved in the Marton community. As discussed Pete Webborn and myself have set out some dates during which we would like to set up a working party in the school grounds.

During these sessions we would like to complete a variety of tasks including: clearing paths, clearing out brambles and nettles, creating useable outdoor spaces and making the woodlands safe for the children to use. As mentioned we will be sure not to damage any habitats.

The dates that we have put in the diary are:

• Saturday 1st April 1330- 1630
• Wednesday 12th April 1600-1900
• Wednesday 3rd May 1800-2100

Please bring gloves and any gardening equipment that you are happy to use. We will be able to burn the rubbish on site. Tea and cake will be provided.

The A34 will be closed from 26 September to 5 October 2016, overnight between 7:30pm and 5am, from the ambulance station in Congleton to the Monks Heath crossroads.

The Congleton half marathon will go through Marton on 2 October 2016; do come out to support the runners, who will run along part of Bunce Lane, the A34, Davenport Lane, Boundary Lane and Messuage Lane.

Are you interested in helping to reduce the speed of traffic through the village? We’re looking again at setting up a SpeedWatch scheme and need volunteers.

Here is some information from our PCSO…

The scheme allows the public to get actively involved in monitoring the speed of vehicles travelling through their neighbourhood. It is used in areas where speeding has been identified as a priority. Community Speedwatch (CSW) is a locally driven initiative where active members of the community join together with the support of the Police to monitor speeds of vehicles using speed detection devices. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds.

Speeding continues to be a concern for many communities in both rural and urban environments.

Volunteers receive appropriate training, and are supported by Local Policing Unit staff. The scheme aims to cater for the problem of real or perceived speed related offending, and through partnership with the community it is to be used in circumstances that are necessary, justifiable and proportionate in order to:

• Reduce death and injury on the roads
• Improve the quality of life for local communities
• Reduce the speed of vehicles to the speed limit
• Increase public awareness of inappropriate speed

Speedwatch activity is not about interfering with neighbours’ behaviour; it is a proactive solution to improve the safety and quality of life for everyone in the community.
